With the hot temperatures and high humidity, extreme instability has been allowed to build over the area, with CAPE (Convective Available Potential Energy, a measure of instability in the atmosphere) values ranging 4500 in far Northwestern Ohio to 6500 in western Indiana. When values reach these levels, they are classified in the extreme category. This has caused the Storm Prediction Center to issue a high end Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 11 pm tonight. In one of their Mesoscale Discussions, the SPC said that severe storm potential in the lower Great Lakes is greater than 70%, which means that severe thunderstorms are likely across the area later this afternoon. Temperatures will likely continue rising to the mid to upper 90's with increasing dew point values as the cold front nears. Dew point values could actually increase to near 76 or 77 before the cold front passes through around midnight. Tonight's lows will drop into the lower 70's and a few isolated areas into the upper 60's. Tomorrow's highs will range from the mid 80's near the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana border to the upper 80's and lower 90's around Fort Wayne and Lima.
